Here's your monthly roundup of product updates, tips for supporting job-seeking learners, and what's coming down the road!
What’s New with Coach
- 🔍 Search learners in the roster: Admins can now filter/search the learner roster, and Advisors can use the classroom/learner drop-downs that were previously Admin-only. We added this functionality in response to a partner request and always appreciate partner feedback.
- 💬 In case you missed it…. Learners can now jump into a Coach conversation directly from the homepage, without first selecting an activity. This lower-friction entry point is already live for all Coach users.

On the Horizon
Below are features we’re exciting to bring our partners in the coming months!
- 🤖 Agentic Coach: Proactive outreach that actively surfaces relevant opportunities, jobs, and scholarships rather than waiting for learners to search.
- 🌐 Sharing URLs with Coach in chat: Learners will be able to share links in conversation for Coach to read and work with, like job postings, a program description, and job search artifacts.
- 🎯 Smarter widget personalization: When Coach is embedded on a partner site, it will pick up context from the page the learner is on with each message, rather than being fixed at the moment the conversation started.

What Learners Are Asking Coach
We recently hosted an AMA with Sharyn, one of Coach's career experts. Here's a look at the questions coming up most often which may be useful context for advisors working with job-seeking students.
📄 "I keep getting rejected. What am I missing?"
The most common culprits are resumes that aren't tailored to the job description, formatting that doesn't pass ATS screening, and bullet points that list responsibilities rather than impact. A strong bullet follows this structure: action verb + what you did + outcome or quantified result. A cover letter also matters more than many students expect — it's the place to reinforce fit and add context a resume can't.
🔄 "I'm transitioning careers. How do I position myself?"
Lead the resume summary with the new industry and relevant transferable skills. Add a "Relevant Projects" section to bridge the gap. In the cover letter, skip the apologetic opener ("Despite my background in...") and instead open with a specific insight about the company or a quantified win that maps to the new role.

The career ladder is broken. Here's what replaces it.
The linear climb up a single career ladder is increasingly rare. This piece explores what modern career progression actually looks like (lateral moves, portfolio careers, and skills-first thinking) and has direct relevance for advisors helping students set realistic, flexible expectations about their paths forward.
Case Study on Coach’s Impact with Opportunity @ Work STARs
A useful read for partners working with non-traditional learners, this case study from Opportunity@Work documents how Coach delivered over 1,000 coaching sessions in its first year for STARs (workers Skilled Through Alternative Routes) navigating career barriers without a four-year degree.
This story shares the experience of a student who found career direction and community through CareerVillage, and is a great reminder of the power of scaling access to quality career advising and coaching.
